Eating On The Run For Weight Loss

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Kris Bierek “I’m too busy!” “I’m always on the run.” “I never leave my desk during the day.” Sound familiar? These are the most common excuses I hear for why people don’t eat a healthy, balanced diet. Too many people resort to fast food and junk because they don’t think they have any other options. But with a little planning and preparation time, it is possible to eat well and maintain a busy lifestyle. If you will spend one to two hours one day a week preparing for the week ahead, it really is quite easy. At the grocery store stock up on healthy snack options such as yogurt, cottage cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables, and nuts. Spend a little time putting these snack foods into individual servings. Grill several chicken breasts or other lean meats to use in salads and sandwiches for the week. Cut up your vegetables so they are ready to go for salads. If all of the prep work is done, it takes no time in the morning to throw together a salad or wrap for lunch. Invest in some disposable food containers, plastic spoons and forks, and disposable cups. If you tend to eat breakfast on the run, or skip breakfast altogether, you can make some oatmeal, put it in a disposable cup, and take it with you. I carry an insulated cooler in my car all the time. If I am going to be out all day working, I pack it in the morning with all of the food I need for the day. I also keep a protein bar everywhere - my gym bag, my car, just in case I find myself out longer than I expected and get hungry. If you do find yourself without any options other than fast food, at least try to make the best choices. Here’s a hint - skip the fries and order a side salad with low-fat dressing instead! You can find nutrition information on many fast food chains here: http://www.shapefit.com/fastfood.html Make sure to educate yourself so that you can make the right choices. It will take a little effort to prepare some healthy foods for your busy weekdays, but you will be amazed at how easy it really is, and at how much better you will feel! Here is a recipe for my favorite To-Go lunch: Grilled Chicken and Black Bean Salsa Wraps Sprinkle 1 chicken breast with chile powder and grill until done. Slice and serve in a whole wheat tortilla with Black Bean Salsa: 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained 1 tomato, chopped yellow bell pepper, chopped 2 green onions, chopped cup fresh cilantro 2 T. nonfat plain yogurt 1 tsp. Lime juice tsp. Ground cumin 1 tsp. Chile powder Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate. Continental Airlines

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Jeff Stats Continental Airlines is one of the leading carriers in the United States. Its history started in 1934 with Mr. Walter Varney establishing the airlines called after him Varney Speed Lines at El Paso International Airport. A couple of years later Mr. Robert Six took over the company and moved headquarters to Stapleton Airport in Denver, Colorado. Six ran the company for forty years. In its sixty eight year history the company went through two bankruptcies, in 1983 and 1991. On February 29, 1996, the Wall Street Journal reported that Continental gave its shareholders the fifth best return of any public company during 1995 and ranked it number one among eight other airlines with a return that was 213.9% above the peer average. Continental’s stock was trading near its 52-week high point. Continental was growing, serving more and more cities all over the world. On July 17, 1996 the company split its stock 2 for 1. A number of times Continental was named one of the “100 best companies to work for”. Everything was going just fine until September 11, 2001. Along with World Trade Center buildings the airline business collapsed. When in 2000 Continental generated $342 million of net income then in 2001 it was $95 million loss and in 2002 company experienced net loss of $451. It seemed that the second quarter of the present year went well for the company; finally one can see positive numbers on the financial reports of the company ($100 million dollars of net income for the 2nd quarter). However, another great challenge for Continental, just as for any other airline, happened to be the sufficient increase in the prices for fuel. Apart from high fuel costs that sufficiently affect the profitability of the company Continental also experiences high labor costs for flight attendants, excessive taxation, increased security costs and significant pension liabilities. Continental management views present U.S. domestic network carrier financial environment as poor and could deteriorate further. Another threat Continental Airlines being the 5th largest carrier in the U.S. and 6th in the world is the growth of low-cost domestic carriers. Although, one the Continental’s strength and ways out of this situation is having a great number of international routes. As a matter of fact, Continental has more international destinations than any other U.S. airline. Since September 11, 2001 when the company started experiencing substantial losses one of the most crucial goals and objectives for Continental became any possible cost cutter. Of course, the easiest way to cut the operation costs is to decrease the labor costs. Continental changed wages, work rules and benefits for all employees except the flight attendants and certain employees of wholly-owned subsidiary Continental Micronesia, Inc. (”CMI”) who are subject to collective bargaining agreements. Company began implementing changes in early April 2005, which, when fully implemented, are expected to result in approximately $418 million of annual pay and benefits cost savings on a run-rate basis. Despite all the difficulties the company continues to grow. It is very important that Continental management understands that even substantial cuts in labor costs will not bring the company back to the long-term profitability. That is why Continental Airlines expand even more. By 2007 they plan to open a first non-stop from the United States route to Shanghai. The company also expects the delivery of 34 Boeing aircrafts by the end of 2006 and another 44 aircrafts from 2008 till 2011. The numbers clearly show that Continental Airlines expect on growing and apparently improving the financial figures. Most people probably think that it is unethical to cut workers wages and expand the company at the same time. However, if Continental chose to reduce its business how many workers would lose their jobs in this case? The expanding strategy is the good plan to come back to the profitability, only if the concept of “economies of scale” works in this situation. By expanding Continental consequently will have to increase their labor force and along with cutting wages and benefits for employees it could be a tough task. The Art of War - Cleaning Your Home

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Enrique Cleanotto Unless you really like cleaning your home, you need a good strategy for getting it done with the minimum amount of fuss. This strategy can be called the Art of War, as applied to your house. The Art of War - Cleaning Your Home For most people, taking the time out to clean a home is not one of the more enjoyable tasks. It does not nearly as bad as preparing your taxes, but probably falls right in line with having to go to the grocery store to buy food. In other words, it is a task that has to be done, but as quickly and efficiently as possible so you can get on to other things in your life. The first step in developing a cleaning approach is to consider timing issues. Simply put, it is far easier and more efficient to clean on a regular basis versus trying to do the entire home all at once. If you set aside a couple hours every few weeks go through and do basic cleaning, you are going to find that everything goes a lot quicker and is much easier to get done. A good way to approach this, is to think about certain periods of the week when you have down time in your home. After breakfast on Sunday morning, most people just hang out and loaf for a few hours. Instead of loafing, you can plan on attacking one aspect of your home. The second step to making things go easier it is to first deal with clutter in your home. Your home may look more dirty than it is because there simply stuff laying around. If you go through the dirty clothes in the hamper, dishes in the dishwasher, and trash in the trash cans, infinitely cleaner than it did. Cleaning up the clutter should not replace actual cleaning of the home, but it’s a good first step. Once it is time to tackle the actual dirt in your home, preparation is the key. Ironically, you’re going to get dirty, while you’re cleaning. Given this fact, you should take off all jewelry and make sure you were close that can stand to get a little dirt on them. Next, try to put together an orderly cleaning procession. Are you going to start with bedrooms, the kitchen, the bathroom or what? You can start anywhere you wish, but it is generally best to start with higher portions of the room and work your way down. Once you get to the floor, make sure you clean towards the doors so you have some way of getting out. Everybody has a particular way they like to go about cleaning. One way that I prefer is to put on some music to take some of the boredom out of the process. You might give it a try. When it comes to the Art of cleaning, you can definitely take steps to make it less onerous. Try to do it in small steps, clean up the clutter and throw a little music on. Before you know it, you’ll be done with the cleaning up on to the rest of your day. Enrique Cleanotto is with CarpetCleaningYeti.com - carpet cleaning information and companies. Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Lee Dobbins Flowers dont have to be the sole inhabitants of gardens, adding other types of plants like ornamental grasses can add interests to your garden as well as fill in some empty spots and set a beautiful background to show off your bright flowers. Unlike lawn grass, ornamental grass is made to grow to its full height. Therefore you want to carefully choose the planting location so as to ensure your grasses do not obscure the view of shorter plants. Here are five interesting ornamental grasses that can add a unique twist to your garden. Hardy Pampas Grass This is a very tall grass that can grow up to 12 feet and produces white plumed flowers in September and October. It works great as a screen to screen out neighbors or other unsightly areas and grows in large clumps that can be 5 feet wide. It grows in zones five to nine and likes moist well-drained soils with a lot of sun. If it gets too wet, however this can cause damage in winter. Annual Fountain Grass this ornamental grass makes a great border but is only suitable for southern climates and grows best in zone nine. It grows in up to 4 feet and is a fast-growing plant. It comes In two colors green leaves and red leaved. You can dig the crowns up in fall and overwinter them indoors but make sure you get them before the first frost. Japanese Silver Grass This is commonly used in gardens and can grow from three to 6 feet in height. It grows in dense masses and Is a beautiful greenish silvery color with white pink or red flowers that bloom from late August until the first frost. These grasses grow in zones five to nine and can take a wide range of soils but prefer full sun and moist fertile soil. Ribbon Grass Ribbon grass is great to put in places where you cant seem to get anything else to grow but be careful because it can be rather invasive. It is hardy in zones four through eight and can grow to three or 4 feet producing white flowers from June to October. It can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions and will grow both in sun and shade. Rabbits Tail Grass This grass is an annual that is rather easy to grow from seed and produces white fuzzy flowers that look like tiny rabbit tails. It is often seen in dried floral arrangements and is best grown in clumps to get the best effect. Rabbit tale grass grows to 2 feet in height and prefers well-drained soil and lots of sun. there is also a dwarf variety that only grows to 6 inches. There are many ornamental grasses to choose from and if you plan to add them to your garden should do a little bit of research to find out how tall they grow and how Invasive they can be before planting them. These grasses can be planned right in the ground or even putting containers for each unique exotic look that you wont find in just any garden. Glass Wind Chimes

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Eric Morris The rippling tinkling sound produced as each piece of glass in glass wind chimes sways and comes in contact with the other pieces while the wind blows is truly a pleasure to hear. The mere sound can spark your imagination. You will instantly feel as if you are surrounded by the marvels and beauty of nature - the chirping of the birds, the cascading flow of the river, or the rippling waves of the ocean. Origin of Wind Chimes Where does that thing of beauty comes from? You will surely see the chimes hanging on temples and pagodas, if time would allow you to travel back to trace their origin. Chimes were originally used as musical instruments made from a set of small and big bells, each with its own tone and melody. Later on, they were used as decorations for ordinary homes, which eventually spread across the countries. It is now also a valuable tool for Feng Shui, which influences the different parts of the world Wind Chimes for Feng Shui The types and number of materials used in making wind chimes are of vital consideration in Feng Shui to attract positive energy. Wind chimes from other ancient Asian countries are made from wood materials, usually bamboo or coconut. Metal and glass were later used to represent other elements. Where to place the chimes or how to hang them may depend on the type of materials used or the element they represent. Glass Wind Chimes as Accessories Glass wind chimes are great add-ons both for your home’s interior or exterior, may it be in your living room, your very own room or the garden. Wind chimes made from stained glass are great for your garden, especially if the sunlight shines through the glass with the wind blowing gently to produce the soothing tinkling sounds. It is a must that the strings are secured enough to hold the pieces together as well as to withstand the effect of sunlight. Banish Baggy Eyes and Dark Circles

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Sacha Tarkovsky Do you want to banish baggy eyes and dark circles around them? Think you need an expensive cream? Plastic surgery? Think again. Our simple home remedy will cost you virtually nothing and you can have great results. You can really banish baggy eyes and dark circles. How Did You Get Baggy Eyes? Dark Circles? The bags and dark circles that you see under eyes can be the result of a number of things. First of all it may be (and often is) an inherited tendency. Next there are just people who are born with darker circles around their eye sockets. Next they may be just part of the natural aging processes. Lack of restful sleep often results in bags and dark circles, and finally it may be due to environmental factors such as allergies, dehydration and crying. The truth is, the causes are not perfectly understood. What is Technically Happening? Aging causes our skin to get thinner. There is a break down of the lattice work under the skin formed by collagen fibers. This latticework acts to keep the skin tight and elastic. Then, the thin skin, when seen in places without layers of fat (such as the skull or hands) gives a darker appearance… With the skin around the eyes thinning, the blood vessels beneath and our own darker shadows of bone to begin to show through. This may be worse due to genetic pre-disposition, but things like too much UV light and even smoking and worsen the effect. Also a general lack of sleep or restful sleep is another culprit for baggy eyes and dark circles. It may have a lot to do with blood supply and oxygen in that area. So, What Can be Done? You may not be able to completely eliminate baggy eyes and dark circles, but you certainly can reduce them. Here are some real and effective tips to follow: Drink plenty of fresh clean water daily and keep yourself hydrated Take a 3mg tablet of melatonin (if your doctor agrees) each night, and try to get a more restful sleep Stop smoking Wear refrigerated eye pack just before going to bed Prepare a strong cup of tea with teabags, and then chill the bags with most of the water dripped out. Apply the teabags to closed eyes for 15 minutes during a nap or at the end of a long day. Take collagen tablets, but consult your doctor to doses and frequency of such food supplements. Consult your doctor if none of the above are helpful for you, as the problem may be related to something else that needs attention. What you should not do is: Do not use Preparation H. It can be very harmful Do not buy expensive creams, as they do not work Do not just cover the problem with makeup, and forget about it. Try to solve it, not hide it. Do not assume plastic surgery is the only option. Leave the option of the knife as a last resort. Remember, in many cases, its just your genetic disposition, and then not much of anything can eliminate the baggy eyes and dark circles, but certainly, some of the remedies we suggest can really help. Improving Cell Phone Reception

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Brendan_Gill]Brendan Gill Cellular Repeaters Cellular repeaters are an emerging technology product designed to repair areas of poor cellular reception. The logistics of building a cellular network mean that there will inevitably be areas which are either too far from a cell tower, or are shielded from picking up signal due to being obscured by larger buildings. However, a solution to this problem is arriving in the form of cell phone repeaters. These are bi-directional amplifiers, which when installed, can permanently boost the signal in your home/office/vehicle. Benefits of Improved Cell Reception The benefits of installing a cell phone repeater extend beyond the improved cell signal and reduction in dropped calls: Battery life can be vastly improved as your phone will no longer have to operate at full power to try and send a signal to the nearest cell tower. As the cell signal is improved, cell phones are programmed to reduce their power output when it is no longer necessary to operate at full power. Another benefit of cell phone repeaters is the reduction in radio frequency radiation which is broadcast in the vicinity of your head. This is also due to the reduction in operating power of your cell phone after a cellular repeater is installed. Cell Repeater Systems A cellular repeater system consists of three parts: First, an external ‘donor’ antenna, which receives the signal from the nearest cell tower. This is connected via a low loss coaxial cable to the actual cellular amplifier, where the cell signal is boosted. The final part of the cellular amplification system is an internal antenna, which is where the freshly boosted cell signal is rebroadcasted from. Recent Developments Dual Band repeater systems are becoming more and more popular due to their simplicity and widespread appeal. Dual Band repeaters are compatible with both the cellular frequencies, which means they will work with all cellular network providers. Examples of these include the Wilson SOHO Amplifier and the Wi-Ex zBoost YX-510 amplifier. More recently, zBoost announce the first sub $100 and fully portable repeater in the shape of the zBoost zP Personal Repeater. This is an exciting new device that is designed to be a ‘potable cell zone’ in the sense that it only has enough power for one user, and is mobile enough to be taken everywhere with the user. The zBoost zP Personal Repeater will be available from mid-June onwards. The Wilson SOHO Amplifier and the zBoost YX-510 are both available now. Yellow Perch

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Dale Mazurek Perch are a great fish for young and old. They can be fished at any time of the year and in many depths of water. Perch are a great starter fish for kids or catching the big ones can be a great challenge to even the seasoned angler. Some of the biggest and most impressive catches are caught in the winter time. Most perch are caught 2 or 3 inches off the bottom of the lake. Live bait is usually the bait of choice for most anglers with maggots being the most popular. You can tip a lead head jig with bait or use a plain number 4 to 6 hook with a split shot about six inches above the hook. Perch can be found in many of the same places that you would find walleye. In the spring time you can look for them in the shallow bays and on shallow flats where the sun is warming up the water. For the rest of the year you can fish weedy or rocky humps. My favorite place in the summer time is in deep water with high weeds. I fish just above the weeds. You should try this; I think you will be surprised at what comes out of the weeds to feed on your hook. You dont want to use heavy tackle when fishing for perch. Light tackle is preferred because perch are not heavy fighters. You shouldnt use more then 4 pound test. The lighter tackle makes casting the smaller hooks easier. For many years perch fishing has been a great way to kill a bad day of fishing. Perch fishing has helped in the bonding of many fathers and their kids. It has even helped to get a lot of women involved in the great sport of fishing. So remember that no matter what a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work. Certified Nurse-Midwife as a Profession

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Melissa Steele A midwife is required to complete the prescribed course of studies in midwifery and to acquire the necessary training to be registered and or legally licensed to practice midwifery. She must be able to give the essential supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. The midwife conducts a delivery on her own responsibility and cares for the newborn. All nurse-midwifery programs are within institutions of higher education. Roughly 70% of nurse-midwives graduate college at the Master’s degree level. Programs for midwifery have to be accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives ( ACNM ) in order for graduates to be qualified to take the national certification exam. There are currently 47 ACNM accredited nurse-midwifery programs in this country. You must be a registered nurse and have at least two years of experience before you apply for nurse-midwife programs. A midwife must be able to provide an extensive range of healthcare services to the women and their newborns. Midwife duties include history taking, physical assessment, ordering appropriate laboratory tests and procedures. The also counsel patients on health promotion and risk reduction activities. The majority of nurse-midwife practice focuses on childbirth and gynecological care, and family planning. These services are performed in cooperation with the client. Midwives also have prescriptive privileges similar to nurse practitioners. These privileges vary by state. Nurse-midwives work in collaboration with OB/GYN doctors when it comes to situations like high-risk pregnancies or other scenarios that are outside of the midwives capabilities. As with many other professions, certified nurse midwives are regulated at two different levels. Licensure is a procedure at the state level in accordance with specific state laws. This can vary from state to state. Certification, however, is recognized by a national organization and the standards for professional practice are the same across the country. In many locales, a masters degree is necessary for national certification. Some states require that you be nationally certified to get your license. Only graduates of nurse-midwifery programs accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) are qualified to take the certification examination. The American College of Nurse-Midwives Certification Council administers the certification test. Melissa Steele, College Degrees @ EducationGuys.com Writer.
